  1. Click on System Preferences icon on the dock. Then click on the Sound icon. (first image) Click the Input tab and then plugin your external USB microphone to your computer.

    • The USB audio device should appear and will vary by name. *It will not be the Display Audio, Line In, or Digital In. (second image)

  2. Open your iMovie project. Click the Microphone icon to open the Voiceover control panel. (first image) Click the Record From drop down arrow to select your USB microphone. (second image)

    • Click the Record From drop down arrow to select your USB microphone. (second image)

    • Click on a clip where you want the voiceover to begin. The clip will be highlighted red and the word Recording will appear. Last, click on the clip to stop the recording. (third image)

  3. Your voiceover will appear under the clip in purple.
    • Your voiceover will appear under the clip in purple.

    • Click on the white gear next to your voiceover clip to adjust the audio settings. (Optional)

    • Congrats! You now know how to record a voiceover for your clip.
